After Dark Games Windows 7

Two hours after I first popped the After Dark Games CD into my computer I was still sitting there, mesmerized. There are 11 games included, games that challenge the mind and even word and problem solving skills. The first game I played was 'Hula Girl', a fabulous game of manual dexterity that challenges your ability to utilize the arrow keys. One simply must appreciate navigating a possessed-looking dancing child named Beluhla and her hula hoop on her journey to keep jumping as long as possible while eating ice cream sundaes, cupcakes and other high fat goodies. Heaven forbid she accidentally eat broccoli or bump into her evil twin Cruela, she'll lose her much needed hula hoop and score negative points on the yuckometer. I loved this game and if someone doesn't take it away from me soon there is a good chance I'll never go outside again.

'Fish Shtick' is a word scramble in which the player must attempt to create a word with the letters attached to swimming fish before they swim past the screen. Each correct word is rewarded with a point. It's like a swimming Wheel of Fortune without Vanna. Or Flipper on an acid trip. It's pretty neat.

'Roof Rats' was very amusing. People and rats are trapped on the roof of a building. Each room in the building is denoted by a color and when two rooms of the same color are beside each other, they can be removed with a mouse click and the tenants become that much closer to being saved. Musclemen can climb down a few floors, whereas the Granny needs to be lowered to the ground. When she is, she mutters 'thank you' and toddles off. The rescued rats squeal and scamper along. Getting the people off the roof becomes an obsession. The need to save imaginary computer game people becomes almost overwhelming. And the three skill levels can really keep you on your toes.

When it's time to mellow out, a quiet game of 'Solitaire' might be in order.

Then there's 'Rodger Dodger', an arcade style game where the object is to snag as many green geometric pieces as possible and avoid the red balls that try to kill you. Picture Pac-man but without the cute yellow guy with the big mouth. No ghosts. It kind of lacks something, like a character or theme.

After Dark Games By Sierra, free after dark games by sierra software downloads. I just re-installed Windows 7 today and my screen is just too dark I can't hardly see anything. I noticed that the brightness buttons on the keyboard are not working. My laptop screen is too dark. Ask Question 0. Very Dark Windows 7 Screen. Uninstall laptop screen, replace with external monitor.

'Foggy Boxes' and 'Mooshu Tiles' didn't wow me. These puzzle games might appeal to the younger crowd, though. I tried the highest level of these and just didn't feel challenged. I bet kids would like playing though.

If trivia is your calling, 'Zapper' will be of interest. Score as many points as possible while answering yes or no questions before the clock runs out. The questions are strange and unusual enough that you probably won't know the answer, but hey, you've got a 50 percent chance of getting it right. This is a lot of fun, and pretty contagious.

Mowing the lawn can really suck, unless of course, it's on your computer screen. A guy on a tractor, 'Mowin' Man' tries to mow the lawn while somehow managing to avoid dogs, gardeners and even zombies. Extra power is achieved by snagging wallets, flags, cups and the like. And like any disgruntled individual, he takes pride in being able to run over his opponents with his lawnmower during the few seconds of extra power received by acquiring the correct object. Heaven forbid he get offed by an angry gardener, he wont have to fret. He's got two more lives.

Feeling powerful? Wanna save a cartoon characters life? The object of the game is to make as many words as possible while playing the 'Bad Dog 911' word game. This unfortunate fellow's dog has catapulted him onto the tower by releasing the winch level on the clock. It's up to you to create as many words as you can with the letters provided. Get enough words together and the clock cleaner is saved. Failure to come up with a sufficiency of words will only result in watching him fall and splatter. Do you really want that on your conscience?

'Toaster Run' has beautiful graphics of flying toasters, and if you are fortunate to be coordinated enough to navigate them around the game without flying into walls, refrigerators, doors then catching on fire, you're one step ahead of me. There are three levels, though I couldn't get more than five or 10 points on any given attempt before bursting into flames. The point is to not crash into things while trying to get the 'Baby Guy' safely back to his crib. Maybe I'll go practice this one.

Overall, this is a pretty amusing and entertaining CD and you're sure to find something that appeals to everyone in the household. You can't say that about most games, can you?

After Dark is a series of computerscreensaversoftware introduced by Berkeley Systems in 1989 for the Apple Macintosh, and in 1991 for Microsoft Windows.[3][4]

Following the original, additional editions included More After Dark, Before Dark, and editions themed around licensed properties such as Star Trek, The Simpsons, Looney Tunes, Marvel, and Disney characters.[4]

On top of the included animated screensavers, the program allowed for the development and use of third-party modules, many hundreds of which were created by the height of After Dark's popularity,[5] including Star Wars Screen Entertainment by LucasArts and Presage Software development, Inc.

Flying Toasters[edit]

The most famous of the included screensaver modules is the iconic Flying Toasters which featured 1940s-style chrome toasters sporting bird-like wings, flying across the screen with pieces of toast. Engineer Jack Eastman came up with the display after seeing a toaster in the kitchen during a late night programming session and imagining the addition of wings.[6] A slider in the Flying Toasters module enabled users to adjust the toast's darkness and an updated Flying Toasters Pro module added a choice of music—Richard Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries or a flying toaster anthem with optional karaoke lyrics.[7] Yet another version called Flying Toasters! added bagels and pastries, baby toasters, and more elaborate toaster animation. The Flying Toasters were one of the key reasons that After Dark became popular, and Berkeley began to produce other merchandising products such as T-shirts, with the Flying Toaster image and slogans such as 'The 51st Flying Toaster Squadron: On a mission to save your screen!'

The toasters were the subject of two lawsuits, the first in 1993, Berkeley Systems vs Delrina Corporation, over a module of Delrina's Opus 'N Bill screensaver in which Opus the penguin shoots down the toasters.[8] After a U.S. District judge ruled that Delrina's 'Death Toasters' was infringing, Delrina later changed the wings of the toasters to propellers.[8] The second case was brought in 1994 by 1960s rock groupJefferson Airplane who claimed that the toasters were a copy of the winged toasters featured on the cover of their 1973 album Thirty Seconds Over Winterland.[9] The case was dismissed because the cover art had not been registered as a trademark by the group prior to Berkeley Systems' release of the screensaver.[6]

A 3D version of the toasters featuring swarms of toasters with airplane wings, rather than bird wings, is available for XScreenSaver.

A flying toaster was used as a logo of the club called Peach Pit After Dark in the TV series Beverly Hills 90210.[10]

After Dark Games and onward[edit]

An After Dark CD-ROM

Sierra Interactive and Berkeley Systems released After Dark Games in 1998 for the Macintosh and Windows platforms, which contained several games modeled after their previously released screensavers.[11][12] These games included Mowin' Maniac (a Pac-Man clone based on the 'Mowin' Man' and 'Mowin' Boris' modules); Roof Rats (similar to SameGame and variants); Solitaire (After Dark themed); Toaster Run (a 3D adventure game featuring several After Dark Characters, including the Flying Toaster); Zapper (a trivia game); Hula Girl (an endless 2D platforming game based on the 'Hula Twins' module from After Dark 4.0); two word scramble games – Bad Dog 911 (based on the 'Bad Dog' modules) and Fish Shtix (based on the 'Fish' modules, mainly 'Fish World'); Foggy Boxes (a Dots and Boxes game based on the 'Messages 4.0' module); MooShu Tiles (a Mahjong-like game featuring many After Dark characters throughout the years); and Rodger Dodger.[13] 'Rodger Dodger' had been a module several years earlier, but also a playable game inside the module. Not much was changed from the module, except some of the music and most of the level set-ups. Many[who?] fans liked the games, but some[who?] felt it lacked games based on more fitting modules, such as 'Daredevil Dan', 'Lunatic Fringe' (which was a game inside its module, like 'Rodger Dodger'), and the After Dark re-working of 'Rock, Paper Scissors' (also a game inside its module).

In 1997, Berkeley Systems was acquired by the Sierra On-Line division of CUC International.[14]Joan Blades and Wes Boyd, the founders of Berkeley Systems, went on to create MoveOn.org.

Fans have made modern versions of several of the screensavers in the years since.

An official version of After Dark was released for Mac OS X (running on PowerPC) by Infinisys Ltd (of Japan) in May 2003.[15] For Intel Macs, three of the most popular modules—Flying Toasters, Mowing Man and Boris—are being sold as standalone screensavers.[16]

Sierra released a Flying Toaster video game for cell phones in 2006.[17]

The animated series Bad Dog was inspired by the eponymous screensaver.[18]
