A snake charmer can work with a cobra in relative safety because he understands how to work with his scaly partner. Like the snake charmer, you can have a successful relationship with your Tama Iron Cobra bass drum pedal if you understand how to work with it. The pedal was designed with a number of adjustable parts to help create a custom feel and response. These various adjustments can be made quickly using the proper technique.

Open the power clamp at the front of a Tama Iron Cobra bass drum pedal by rotating the notched master washer counterclockwise.

1986 — This year TAMA introduced 3 new drum sets, Artstar II, Crestar and Granstar drums. Artstar was made with 100% Canadian maple and the other two were made with 100% Japanese birch. Hi, Im looking for some information/history on a set of Tama Artstar II drums that I got off craigslist. The virgin toms are 8x8, 10x8, 12x9, 14x13, 16x15, and have square, single-point snare lugs (instead of the long triangular lugs). The bass drum is 20x16, and has round, single-point snare lugs. Tama Drums, (from Japanese 多満 (Kanji) タマ (Kana), read tama) is a brand of drum kits and hardware manufactured and marketed by the Japanese musical instrument company, Hoshino Gakki.

Tighten the power clamp in place by turning the wingnut behind the master washer clockwise.

Locate the tension spring at the right of the pedal. Adjust the spring tension by turning the upper spring tension washer counterclockwise, then push down on the upper washer while turning the lower locking spring tension washer clockwise until it locks in place.

Loosen the nut securing the beater in place with a drum hammer. Remove the beater from its housing, slide the beater balancer over the beater arm, insert the beater back into its housing and tighten the nut in place with the drum hammer.

Slide the beater balancer up to the desired position on the beater arm and lock it in place with the drum hammer. Place the Tight-Lock cap over the nut, securing the beater in place and tighten the cap down with the drum hammer.

Loosen the nut at the top of the Speedo-Ring, located at the upper right of the pedal with the drum hammer.

Adjust the angle of the foot board until the desired angle is achieved. Secure the foot board in place by tightening the the nut above the Speedo-Ring with the drum hammer.

.A LITTLE HISTORY.
How did the kit originate? While Metallica was working on the Black Album in 1991 Lars and his drum tech Flemming Larsen met with Tama to discuss the set for the new tour. They decided to switch from birch shells to maple which was the Tama Artstar II lineup. Lars liked the split Granstar lugs so they decided to keep them on his new set. The guy that worked on this was Joe Hibbs from Tama. He had to strip and replace 1,850 pieces of hardware and have it replated in black. This had to be done for the MTV Video Awards in Oct. 1991.
In 1992 Tama released the Lars Ulrich Signature Kit. There were 25 made exactly replicating the one used on the Black Album tour from 1991-1993. Lars declined all royalties and put the money back into the kit to reduce the cost. Once released, 19 drum stores and Guitar Centers in the U.S. were shipped the kits to display and sell. The rumor is 3 kits were sent to Europe.
The story goes that out of the 25 Sets shipped 2 were damaged. Just know, all of the sets drum shells have a label, serial number, and Lars' signature.
